  • Ruby – Photo 1 of 1

    Ruby

    €200adoption fee

    Dog · 4-5 years · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Ruby is a small Maltese mix, approximately 4–5 years old. We are not sure what he is mixed with, but he is a small dog. Ruby can be quite fearful and nervous, and we believe he may have had some difficult experiences earlier in life. There is also a possibility that he spent a lot of time tied or leashed outside when he was younger, which may help explain his strong fear of leads and some of his nervous behaviour. He can be territorial and may bark a lot, especially when he feels unsure or uncomfortable. Ruby is not leash trained and is very frightened of leads. When a leash is put on him, he tends to freeze rather than walk, so he would need a very patient and gentle approach to leash training. Ruby is affectionate and enjoys human attention. He will approach people himself for attention and especially likes head rubs. However, he can become nervous if he feels overwhelmed, so he is happiest when attention is given on his terms and his body language is respected. He has been patient around children and has not shown a tendency to bite. However, because he can be nervous and somewhat unpredictable when frightened, interactions with children should always be supervised and calm. Ruby does not seem bothered by cats, but he does not get along well with other dogs. He can become very reactive and aggressive around them, particularly in his own space. This is the main reason he is being rehomed, as there is now another small dog in the household and Ruby is not coping well with having another dog around. Because of this, Ruby would likely be best suited to a home where he is the only dog. He would benefit from an experienced, patient owner who understands fearful or reactive dogs and can give him time, space and consistent boundaries. A quieter home may suit him best, where he can gradually build trust and receive gentle training. to apply for Ruby, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire

  • Benno – Photo 1 of 1

    Benno

    €200adoption fee

    Collie · 5 years · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Benno is a beautiful, healthy, 5 year-old rough collie looking for a quiet, loving home. He is a clever and energetic dog who needs regular exercise and stimulation. Benno is a lot of fun to be around when there’s a frisbee or ball to chase, and he loves to rub his back on a frosty lawn! Benno can be headstrong but is also keen to please and likes obedience training (with treats). Benno is not especially affectionate, but seeks out his our company and flops companionably at our feet in the evenings. Benno is highly reactive and reacts strongly to noises. He finds loud noises like motorbikes, blenders and vacuum cleaners threatening and reacts aggressively with barking. He also sometimes also barks at other sounds like laughter, singing or children playing on the street. He is overly protective of his household and can be aggressive towards visitors. He gets excited by airplanes (and will give chase). Benno has lived companionably with two cats, but has been the only dog since we adopted him as a puppy. When walking he is a bit nervous of small dogs and can be reactive to larger dogs, but also interested in meeting other dogs. Benno needs a peaceful home, maybe with teenagers but not young children. We’re looking for a quieter home (away from an airport flight path) and an experienced owner who can help Benno overcome his reactive and protective tendencies and become a happier and more settled version of himself. to apply for Benno, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire

    Cat

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Jordan is about 2 years old , black male, neuteured and vaccinated. He is very loveable and friendly with new people and loves play time. Felix (black and white male) is about 9 years old, vaccinated and neutered) . He was very timid of people when he first arrived but has warmed up to us and love snuggles on the couch and is playful once he gets used to you. It will take him a little bit of time to adjust to a new place and new people but showering him with plenty of affection will build his trust. They are both indoor cats at the moment and if they could get a home together it would be great as they are good friends. Due to Felix bieng a little more timid, these cats are looking for an adult only home to apply for Jordan and Felix, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire

    Bobby and Pesto

    €60adoption fee

    Cat

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Bobby (grey and white) and Pesto (black and white), are two beautiful 5-month old male kittens who are looking for their forever home. They are litter trained, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and have been treated against fleas and worms. Both of the boys love to play and run around, have a great appetite, and always curl up together for a nap. Although they are still a little shy with people, they are gradually becoming more comfortable with receiving affection. A family who is happy to continue socialisation would be perfect. As they are very bonded, we are looking to rehome them as a pair. An indoor home with safe access to the outdoors would be ideal, but fully indoor homes will also be considered. They get on very well with other cats and kittens, so would be suitable for a home with or without existing cats.

  • Dustin – Photo 1 of 2

    Dustin

    €200adoption fee

    Terrier · 21 months · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Meet Dustin , our 21-month-old neutered Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. He’s a registered purebred with papers, stands about 60cm tall, and has a soft, golden, non-shedding coat. I always thought Dustin and I would grow old together, so writing this breaks my heart. We’re rehoming him because our home is surrounded by horses, and he’s become determined to get into the fields to round them up, which puts both him and the horses at risk. We spent six months trying and considering everything: fencing, GPS collars and additional training, but nothing can match his herding instinct. The space is too big to fence in, and building a pen and keeping him penned up while his dog friends play freely would be no life for such a sociable boy. He deserves somewhere he can run safely. Dustin is joyful, affectionate and full of character. He’s wonderful with children, loves everyone he meets, and is happiest playing with other dogs. He adores woodland walks, beach runs, car trips and the postman (who brings him biscuits!). He’s housetrained, knows lots of tricks, and is a champion cuddler. What we’re hoping for: 1. A doggy companion to play with. He’d make a wonderful younger brother. 2. A large, secure garden away from livestock and with no access to traffic. Dustin is fully vaccinated, and his March booster is already paid for. His vet records are available and show he’s prone to itchy paws, which is very manageable. Dustin is my shadow and the centre of our world. We love him beyond measure, and the hardest part is knowing we won’t see him grow into the wonderful adult dog we know he’ll be. If you think you could give him the home he deserves, please fill out the West Cork Animals Adoption Questionnaire.

  • Rocco – Photo 1 of 1

    Rocco

    €200adoption fee

    Dog · 6 years · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

With a very heavy heart, we’re looking for a new home for our much-loved Rocco. After many years as part of our family, an unexpected move abroad for work means we now have to find the right person or family to love him for the next chapter of his life. ❤️ Rocco is a dog who has definitely travelled. Born in Hungary, shipped out to the Middle East, where we were lucky enough to find him in a rescue shelter, and after two years with us, we brought him home to Ireland to continue living with our family. Around the house, Rocco’s favourite place to be is chilling with us all. With young kids, he moves from room to room and will happily plonk himself down wherever they are — sometimes right in the middle of their fort! 😂 Rocco’s bowel movements are like clockwork — up in the morning and out he goes, and again in the evening. He’s fully house-trained and, when he needs to go out, he’ll generally just come and stand beside you to let you know. During the day, he’s often out in the back garden with the kids at their tree house, playing or simply tagging along with them on whatever adventure they’re having out the back. He’s fed once in the morning and has always been very puppy-like, something we’ve been told from the beginning and something the kennels he stays with while we’re on holidays have said too. At the kennels, he happily plays and mixes with all the other dogs and has no problem staying there overnight. We’re very happy to provide references from them. If we’re heading off for the day, Rocco is quite happy at home and we’ll usually just leave the radio on for him for a bit of company. When a visitor comes to the house, there’s no barking — simply a sniff to say hello. Then off he’ll go to find a toy, a bone, a ball — anything he can bring back in the hope that you’ll play with him. Living out in the countryside, we know how privileged we are, and Rocco is completely at home here. With cows grazing in the fields next door and nature all around us, he’s just as chilled outside as he is in the house. Out for walks, predominantly in our local woods, you may get a bark when an oncoming dog approaches, as Rocco is lead-reactive. He’s much better now than when we first met him and really just wants to be free to go over and say hello. Off the lead and in the kennels, he’s happily playing and socialising with other dogs. Rocco has been my son’s best friend since birth — he’s now 8. He happily lets our now 6-year-old play with his long hair, and our 3-year-old, well, she’s only recently become taller than him! 😂 He really has grown up as part of our children’s lives and right in the middle of our family. Health-wise, Rocco is doing incredibly well for 12. He’s not on any medication and never has been. Two years ago, he had a twisted stomach which required an operation. The operation went really well and he’s had no problems since. He will occasionally develop a hot spot, particularly if we’ve been away on holiday a little too long. If one appears, we pop his cone on to stop him bothering it, which he doesn’t mind at all, and he’s usually fine again within a few days. Our move has all come about very quickly and certainly wasn’t something we had planned for. At 12, Rocco is beginning to slow down with old age, his hearing is starting to go too, and where we’re moving will simply be too hot for him. We don’t feel it would be fair to put him through another international move at this stage of his life. We want to find him a loving home where he can continue to live out the rest of his days surrounded by love, companionship and, hopefully, the beautiful countryside he’s become so at home in. ❤️ Hes a real gem of a dog! Shih Tzu Mix · 7 years · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Teddy is a 7 year old Shih Tzu mix. Teddy is a great little man and loves to be around people, he wants to be involved in everything and likes to just potter around with you, Teddy would not be suited for long leaving hours. Teddy does not know how to walk on lead, so this will be something that his new owners will need to work on, although he has already started to show progress here. He gets along fine with other dogs, so can be homed either, as an only dog or with another smaller companion, Teddy is fine with cats. As Teddy grew up in a rural home, he can be quite sensitive to noises, people passing by and car doors closing etc, so a rural home will be best for him Teddy will need regular grooming, owners will need to maintain his coat as well as visit a professional groomer every few months Teddy has no experience with children, so an adult only home if you think you can offer this lovely lad thhe perfect home, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire

  • Tia – Photo 1 of 1

    Tia

    €200adoption fee

    Dog · 6 months · Female

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Tia is around 8 months of age and has not had a stable upbringing to date. In spite of this she is eager to please, affectionate, gentle and ripe for training. We really hope to turn around her fortunes. Tia was bought at a fair where she shared a pen with several other 6 month old pups. We know this girl has had to fend for herself in her early months – she eats and swallows stones, she eats soil, and she is protective of resources around other dogs. We are looking for a home who can slowly undo these experiences and help her develop confidence across these next crucial months. Tia is super with all dogs she meets, but she would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Future owners should be committed to giving her regular opportunity to meet, walk with and play with other dogs. A daily walk with a dog buddy or visits to dog parks, must be part of her future. Tia walks well on lead and she is very in-tune with her person, always searching them out when she is offlead. Tia will be fine to live with children 8+. We don’t know about cats but she will probably settle fine with them. Leaving hours would not be helpful for Tia, we would like someone to be around and interacting with Tia throughout the day. If you are interested in this wonderful girl, please read the Adoption Process on the website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

  • Minnie – Photo 1 of 1

    Minnie

    €200adoption fee

    Dog · 8 years · Female

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Minnie is an 8 year old JRT. She is the dinkiest, sweetest little girl, but she is timid and will need a calm, loving and encouraging home. Minnie has never learned how to walk on the lead. Future owners will need to put time into this aspect of her training. A secure, ample garden for Minnie would be an asset. A quieter home would also help her as she lacks confidence around people – tending to hit the floor when approached. She ADORES cuddles and affection though so will be a lovely lap-pet! Minnie lived with another dog in the past, butwe would like her to have a calmer, more people-focused future. A home with another gentle, welcoming dog will certainly be considered, or a home where she would be the only dog is also ideal. Minnie is fine with cats. If you would like to offer this sweet poppet a home, please read the Adoption Process on our website and apply for Minnie using the Adoption Questionnaire.

    Spaniel · 10 years · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Zebo is a 10 year old Brittany Spaniel who is being rehomed because his activity levels are too much for his elderly owners. Zebo is a strong, excitable dog who even at 10 has a need for regular and stimulating exercise. A secure garden would be preferrable for Zebo so he has somewhere to dash around. Zebo does not have a lot of experience around other dogs, he would likely do best in a home where he is the only pet. This is a very happy, well-natured dog that we hope will be a terrific walking and hiking companion for the right owner. To apply please fill in the Adoption Questionnaire for Zebo.

    Cat

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Meet SPOTTY and POUNCER, two gorgeous very healthy seven year old neutered brothers from the same litter who’ve never spent a day apart. SPOTTY has a stunning snow-white fur with a spot behind each ear and one on the back while POUNCER has a beautiful white and ginger coat. These two are inseparable and like curling up together like best friends. POUNCER can be a little shy at first, but give him time and he’ll reward you with lap cuddles and contented purring, SPOTTY, meanwhile, is an easy, affectionate soul who loves a good snuggle. Together, they make wonderful, loving companions for anyone looking to fill their home with warmth. Sadly through no fault of their own, these two need a new forever home. Their owner is moving country and cannot take them along. Currently enjoying countryside living, SPOTTY and POUNCER love the outdoors though they don’t stray far, so they’d thrive in a quiet, residential area. Please not that they aren’t used to living with dogs, so a dog free home would suit them. SPOTTY and POUNCER are currently staying in the countryside near Kinsale. If you have room in your heart and your home for this devoted duo, please get in touch. SPOTTY and POUNCER are ready to bring their double dose of love to a family who’ll cherish them forever to apply for Spotty and Puncer, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire – West Cork Animals

  • Danny – Photo 1 of 1

    Danny

    €200adoption fee

    Dog · 10 months · Male

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Danny is a 10 month old large, mixed breed dog who has a soft, affectionate temperament. He came into us from an elderly owner who wasn’t able to give him the time, training or exercise that he needs. Although Danny has all the traits to be a wonderful family pet we will have to be careful about the age of any children in his home, simply because he is unaware of his size and strength and he doesn’t lack for enthusiasm! He is still just a big puppy… Danny will not do well with leaving hours. He spent a lot of his life to date alone in a yard when really all he wants to do is to follow someone around. We are determined to find him a home where he has human or doggie company for most of every day. An active, nurturing home is what Danny needs. He would be fine to live with another dog, he absolutely loves them, but it would need to be a happy playful dog who is mellow enough to accept a new large presence in their home. Danny is strong onlead. He walks well on a harness, but he really has no idea of his size yet. A home with a large garden or access to nice offlead walks, along with regular training on the lead would be helpful. He is terrific off the lead with instant recall. Danny is extremely clean in his kennel, house-training should not be a problem. However, he is very unsure of what people want from him and will still do the submissive peeing we see from pups when they are uncertain or worried. Danny needs consistent kindness and encouragement to shed this puppy behaviour. We would love to see Danny in a happy home, he is going to be a wonderful, devoted pet for whoever gives him his big break! To apply for Danny please read the Adoption Process on our website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

    €200adoption fee

    Lurcher · 2 years · Female

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Adelle is a dream dog, we absolutely love this gorgeous, gentle lurcher. She has a very soft nature and will make a fantastic pet. Adelle is around 2 years of age and is very easy-going. She is fantastic with all dogs, large or small and will need a home where she has a companion dog. She has the cutest little zoomies when she’s happy and she makes us all smile with her silly bursts! Adelle walks nicely on lead but sometimes lacks confidence when being walked away from where she feels safe. We send her out on roadwalks with plenty of volunteers but she need cajoling and encouragement when she’s alone. Walking with another dog – no problem! Whoever takes Adelle will need to go slowly and help her get over any shyness. Adelle is very clean in her kennel, she is gentle and polite around food, she loves her bed! She is also one of the few lurchers we would consider rehoming to a home where there is a cat, her nature we feel is too soft to pose any real threat. If you would like to apply for this beautiful, happy lady, please read the Adoption Process on our website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.

    €60adoption fee

    Cat · 12 weeks · Female

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Beautiful Pixie is a 12 week old kitten who is ready to go to her forever home. She is one of the most affectionate, playful and personable little kittens, despite going through so much so early in her life. Pixie arrived as a stray with severely ulcerated eyes. Her right eye was surgically removed immediately and we have been working on preserving the left eye. That eye still has blemishes on the cornea but she still has sight in it so we want to keep preserving it for now. This eye may require further attention in the future, in which case we will support with any vetwork. Pixie’s future owner will need to apply daily eye ointment to that eye to continue to help it to heal. Pixie is a real superstar and doesn’t make a fuss at all when you apply her meds, she uses it as a good excuse for a cuddle! An indoor home with safe outdoor catio access would be ideal. A home with children and other pets should be fine as long as introductions are done slowly and with supervision. If you are interested in adopting Pixie, please visit www.westcorkanimals.com and fill in the questionnaire in the Adoption section.

    Spaniel X · 5 years · Female

    Co. Cork, Ireland

Lexi is an almost 5 year old Spaniel x Malinois making her an active girl who is cleverer than all of us! She will be an extremely loyal, trainable pet but she will need an experienced home. Lexi has not has much consistency across the past year, this lack of stability has led her to being unsure of people and new situations. Once she knows and loves you, you’re golden. She responds really well to kindness and calmness and has fun, cheeky side to her. Lexi could live with another dog if that dog is able to tolerate extreme play! The Malinois in Lexi leads to serious “mouthiness” and she looks like she is all teeth when she is playing. Once she has a good robust playmate she will also snuggle up nicely with them and enjoys their company. She will also be fine as an only dog because she is really faithful to her human. Meeting dogs onlead is a problem with Lexi. She is very leash reactive and she is not a fan of small dogs. A home where she has plenty of rural walks and enough space to have plenty of exercise in her own garden would be a big asset. Lexi is immediately wary of new people and needs a hands-off approach by visitors until she has a chance to suss them out. A home without too many people coming and going, a home without children, and a home that is able to manage introductions capably is going to be needed. To come visit Lexi and learn more about her, please read the Adoption Process on our website and apply using the Adoption Questionnaire.
