    €245adoption donation

    Beagle · 7 years 6 months · Male · Medium

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Meet Sunny – A Loyal Foxhound Looking for a new home due to a change in circumstance. Sunny is a neutered 7-year-old Foxhound with a big heart and plenty of energy to share. He's about 15kg, and approx 50cm tall. He absolutely loves people and thrives on attention, affection, and being part of everyday life with his humans. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will greet you with enthusiasm every day, he might just be the perfect match. As a typical Foxhound, he is an active dog who needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Long walks, outdoor adventures, and time to explore will keep him happiest. He would do best with an owner who enjoys an active lifestyle and has the time to give him the activity he needs. Sunny can feel a little nervous around new dogs at first, but once he gets to know them, he is very happy and comfortable with familiar canine friends. With patience and positive introductions, he can build great relationships with other dogs. He is looking for a calm, understanding home with an owner who has the time and patience to help him feel secure and continue building his confidence. Because he can be energetic and needs a peaceful environment, he would be best suited to a home without small children. With the right person, Sunny will be an incredibly loving, loyal companion who just wants to be by your side and share life’s adventures. If you think you could offer him the time, exercise, and love he deserves, he would be so happy to meet you.

    Chance

    €245adoption donation

    Staffordshire Bull Terrier · 5 years 3 months · Male · Medium

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Poor Chance has been with us for so long, we thought we would update you on his progress. We had originally thought that this handsome Boxer x boy might have some Staffie in him, but we are now thinking that he may actually be a Boxer x Collie, as he is quite small in height, with the very light limbs of a Collie. Watch this space as we are eagerly awaiting his DNA profile! Kennel life can be hard for the long-term dogs, but Chance has coped really well, and he has been working very hard on his impulse control and muzzle training, so that when the right home comes along, he will be ready. His handler, Caroline, has done brilliant work with him, and it really shows. Chance is exceptionally smart and loves to learn. He’s already muzzle trained, walks beautifully on lead and harness, and absolutely adores practising all of his cues on his walks like sit, paw, spin, paws up, down, find it, “go sniff”… you name it, he’ll give it a go. His recall is fantastic too, especially when a game of fetch is involved. Chance is looking for a home in a rural setting with an extremely secure garden, Someone experienced with energetic, enthusiastic breeds, and who is willing to continue his training seriously. Chance is just bursting with love, fun, and potential and he really deserves the best possible home. Chance loves tug toys, destruction boxes, and any kind of enrichment that gets his brain working. He’s happiest when he has a job to do. He’s not overly into cuddles or rubs, he can get a little over-aroused with too much fuss but he does enjoy relaxing with “his person” once he’s had his playtime and mental workout. Chance is a wonderful young dog with so much love and loyalty to give. In the right home, he’s going to be an absolute superstar 😍 If you think you could be Chance’s perfect match please submit an adoption application.

    Sabel

    €100adoption fee

    Cat · Female

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Anu arrived heavily pregnant, frightened and unsure of the world around her. Thankfully a safe, quiet and peaceful foster home was waiting for her, where foster mum Edel gave her the time, patience and security she needed to relax and raise her beautiful babies, Sabel, Savarin and Flori. Anu has returned to the Cattery but Anu kittens, Sabel, Savarin and Flori have stayed with Edel a little longer. We would absolutely love to see them all find their forever families soon, so their next chapter can begin. Like their mum, Anu’s babies have a naturally gentle and slightly reserved and timid nature. They aren't the kittens who will necessarily rush straight over to greet you but give them a little time to settle, earn their trust and build that bond and you will discover the sweetest, loving little personalities underneath. They would be happiest in homes where they can continue to build their confidence, ideally with another friendly cat to learn from and take reassurance from. We feel they would be best suited to quieter homes without boisterous dogs or very young children. They may need a little patience at the beginning, but the bond you build with them will make that patience so worthwhile. If you think you could offer Sabel the loving, settled home he deserves, please complete an adoption application form. Sabel is ready for his next chapter........ could you be part of it?

  • Vanilla and Cinnamon Toast – Photo 1 of 14

    Vanilla and Cinnamon Toast

    €100adoption fee

    Cat

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Toast can be a bit boring on its own, so why not add a little Vanilla and Cinnamon? Our double trouble duo, "Vanilla Toast" and "Cinnamon Toast" are ready to find their forever home! From the moment these two met, they became the best of friends. They can fight like cats and dogs, wind each other up, chase each other around and generally create absolute mayhem, but when the day is done, you'll find then curled up together in a ball. They also become distressed when separated, so these two are very much a package deal! They are both high energy, affectionate little characters who will keep you entertained and very much on your toes. Vanilla Toast is a total sweetheart who loves everyone and is always happy to hand out cuddles. Cinnamon is a little more selective. He likes you to earn your place first, but once you've passed inspection, he turns into a very affectionate boy who absolutely loves his people. They're both litter trained, although Cinnamon does have one particular requirement..... his litter tray needs to be kept clean. If he feels standards have slipped, he's quite capable of finding somewhere else to do his business, so keeping his tray fresh is important with this particular gentleman. These two are curious, busy and very good at finding things they probably shouldn't be doing so they need a home where someone is around for a good part of the day and where they can be involved in all parts of family life rather than being left to amuse themselves. Because if left to find their own fun, they will! Vanilla has also been through more than her fair share already. She suffered a horrible leg injury which has thankfully healed, although the leg has fused. She uses it incredibly well and it doesn't stop her running, playing or getting into trouble, but unfortunately she is likely to develop arthritis earlier in life. With the right care and monitoring, there is absolutely no reason why she can't lead a full and happy life. She also popped a stitch after her spay and will need a follow up review with our vets at Croí na Mara over the next month. Believe us when we say, if there is trouble to be found these two will find it. We're looking for a loving, committed busy home, ideally locally, where these two can grow up together and be a proper part of the family. They can live with other cats and dogs with sensible introductions, but because they are enthusiastic and can play quite roughly, we don't feel they're suitable for very young children. If your idea of the perfect home involves two affectionate little maniacs following you around, supervising everything you do, providing entertainment when you didn't ask for it and then collapsing together for a cuddle at the end of the day then Vanilla and Cinnamon Toast might just be the perfect pair for you. The only question is......are you ready for them?

    Cat · Female

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Ada, our senior lady, came into our care with her final baby. Sadly, he was too sick and passed away shortly after arrival. She is now spayed and has completed her vet work. Ada is in her senior years, she is at least 14, and we are hoping to find her a calm and loving home to retire to. Ada can live with other cats, once they allow her space and she has lived with an energetic dog and knows how to avoid and, also, reprimand, if needed! Ada is a sweetheart who just wants a peaceful life and occasional cuddles. If you can offer our senior lady her forever home please complete an adoption application form.

  • Sighthounds – Photo 1 of 15

    Sighthounds

    €250adoption fee

    Dog

    Co. Galway, Ireland

We regularly have suitable greyhounds, lurchers and salukis that are looking for homes. These breeds, known as Sighthounds, are often misunderstood yet surprisingly make the most fabulous addition to a home, particularly if you are looking for a lower maintenance, quieter dog. Kind, gentle and comfort loving, usually great travellers in the car they are often clean in the home from day one (with input from the home to help them learn the routine) and they don't need as much exercise as you would think. For most pet Greyhound owners - once you are a convert there is no going back! If you would like to learn more about Sighthounds, please complete a dog adoption application form and add a note that you would like to talk to someone to learn a little more about Sighthounds or to find out if one would suit your home, family and lifestyle. Then one of the dog rehoming team will get in contact with you. Frequently asked questions: What is a sighthound? A sighthound is any breed that relied on sight and speed, more than scent, to hunt. This includes salukis, wolfhounds, whippets and greyhounds. A lurcher is any dog with a sighthound as a mother or father. Are Sighthounds good with children? As with every adoption it is about finding a sighthound that is suitable to the age of your child/children. Teaching your children the importance of living with a dog is the responsibility of a parent. Children need to learn to behave safely around dogs and know that if a dog is on its bed, sleeping or eating, it should be left alone. Why do I need a homecheck? In some cases it will be a sighthounds first time in a home so before we release a dog from our Heathlawn family to yours we want to ensure a smooth and successful transition. Sighthounds thrive with a routine and we want to make sure you are adopting the right dog for your family and lifestyle and that everyone in the family is happy with the decision to adopt. During a home check it is likely that we will know the name of the sighthound that you have been matched with and therefore we want to see that your garden (if you have one) is sufficiently secure. If it is not, we will make recommendations on how you can improve it and progress to the next stage once evidence of the improvements have been submitted to your home checker. What does a sighthound eat? The same as any other dog! We suggest that you look for better quality dog foods and find a regime that suits your dog, be it a dry food, wet food, raw or a combination. Our team is happy to advise about feeding. Sighthounds have no specific dietary requirements and would eat around the same volume as any large dog like a Labrador or Pointer.

    Dog · 6/7 months · Male

    Co. Galway, Ireland

**Jury** You may remember the 3 puppies we spent hours rescuing late into the night a few months ago after they had been left abandoned and terrified on Ballinasloe Bog . Three unsocialised, traumatised pups of about 6/7 months old .. We named them Judge...Jury and Alibi. Judge came on quite quickly and was rehomed but it was clear that both Jury and Alibi would need more time and a lot more work before they would be ready to face a world they had never seen.. Well we now feel the time has come for Jury and Alibi to start their searches for forever homes. *Jury*.. Now approx 11months old Jury is a completely different dog to the one we first rescued ... He can now bond and trust .. He can now love and cuddle.. He can now enjoy cartrips and walks in the forest .. But the thing he enjoys the most ...is learning and working his mind ... getting it right and pleasing us.. Oh and he loves being told what an amazing, clever boy he is!! Jury is still somewhat of a sensitive soul but one with a deep need to be loved ... He is looking for a home as follows; *He could do fine as an only dog but will need someone at home most of the time .. *He could also live with a kind, confident dog who would be up for some play but also wouldnt mind a younger brother trotting behind them as they learn about the world .. *A home interested in working his clever mind ..As a collie x gsd Jury loves obedience, tricks and puzzles ... *A home with patience, routine and the love to travel on this next journey alongside him .. *We feel a home without young children may be best at this stage of his journey. *Jury is sweet, kind ,loving and loyal... He will become your very best friend and in the right home, with the right person he will be your best friend ... The kind of friend to always be there for you ... The kind of friend to never stop loving you and trusting you .. The kind of friend who will forever hold you in their heart . Walking...Hiking...Camping...Sofa Dates...Car drives... He will be there ...beside you ... If you are looking for that extra loyal friend then here he is.. Cat · 11 years · Male

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Did you hear??? There’s a new boss in town and he is bigger than the last!!! Joey headed off to his forever home this week and when Fred heard there was an opening in our Galway SPCA Shop, Briarhill he decided it was time for a promotion from Office Admin to Shop Floor Security! Fred is absolutely loving his new role and all the attention that comes with it. He is completely unfazed by the hustle and bustle of the shop and seems very happy to supervise everything going on around him! While Fred is enjoying his new position, he is still looking for his forever home. At 11 years old, Fred is one of those cats who can easily be overlooked while younger cats and kittens are also waiting. Senior cats have so much love to give and Fred certainly has plenty of affection to share. So while he waits for someone to see just how special he is, we’re making sure Fred gets all the attention, fuss and affection he could possibly want. And, of course, he’ll be keeping a very close eye on the shop in the meantime because, apparently, that’s what the new boss does!

    Co. Galway, Ireland

Beignet, Shortcake, Eclair and Macaroon have spent the last two months in the most wonderful foster home and what a difference those two months has made! Eclair is the ultimate velcro baby affectionate, gentle, incredibly people oriented and happiest when he is with his humans. He loves cuddles, follows his favourite people around and is always ready to make friend. He is also wonderfully chatty and has the funniest little high pitched meow! Macaroon is his confident, lively little partner in crime. She is affectionate, curious, extremely playful and very much the leader of this little gang. She loves people, loves attention and is usually the first to investigate anything new! Eclair absolutely adores her. They cuddle, groom and play together and Eclair often looks to Macaroon for confidence and reassurance. They really do complement each other beautifully. We would especially love Eclair and Macaroon to be adopted together too. What makes these four so special isn't just their individual personalities it is the relationships they've built along the way and that brings us to their incredible foster family. We cannot thank their foster family enough for everything they have done for these kittens! They haven't simply cared for four kittens for two months. They have taken the time to understand them, earn their trust, recognise their individual needs and, most importantly, give them the security to become confident little personalities. Now it's time for this pair to find their forever family. Eclair & Macaroon, two affectionate, playful little partners in crime.

Rescued nine months ago, as 5/6 week old babies, from horrendous living conditions and Cashel(f) is still hoping to find her forever home. Cashel is a little shy but also has her fun loving, playful side. She was so afraid of us at the start that it's lovely to see her sweet personality shine through. She could probably benefit the most from having another kind dog in the home. As with all our pups we are looking for homes where there will be somebody at home/working from home as puppies need a lot of company and supervision. We see no reason why they cannot learn to live with dog savvy cats or respectful children. They can also live with other kind dogs. Please remember that puppies can have very sharp teeth and nails which may be too much for very young children .

When filming wrapped on RTÉ’s upcoming series The Yank and the production team thought they were saying goodbye to Connemara with everything packed up and ready to go, but Connemara had other plans. With the last bits of equipment were packed and loaded, they discovered four tiny kittens who most definitely hadn’t been part of the original cast. The team searched the area but sadly there was no sign of a mum. Rather than leaving them behind, one of the production team gathered up the little foursome and contacted us to see if we could help. Arrangements were made for them to come into our care the following day and what a transformation they have had since! Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx and Staten have gone from four tiny, unexpected visitors to four gorgeous, confident and playful kittens who are now ready for the next chapter of their story, their forever homes! These four are very sociable youngsters and, as always, our priority will be finding them homes in pairs. Kittens do best with another young cat who can match their energy, play with them and keep them company. We will consider individual homes where there is already a young, active and social cat who would appreciate a little feline companion. They can also live with respectful children and cat savvy dogs, with careful introductions! Four little kittens who were never supposed to be part of the production have now been given their chance at a starring role of their own, a starring role in someone’s family. So while The Yank will be hitting our screens before the end of the year, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx and Staten are looking for their own happily ever after much sooner! No scripts, no retakes, just a loving home, lots of fun and a lifetime of being adored! A huge thank you to the production team behind The Yank for the kindness they showed these little unexpected extras. With filming finished and everyone busy wrapping up, they could easily have walked away and left the kittens behind. Instead, they stopped to help, searched for their mum, gathered the kittens safely and made sure they got the care they needed.

Beignet, Shortcake, Eclair and Macaroon have spent the last two months in the most wonderful foster home and what a difference those two months has made! When Beignet first arrived she was an incredibly frightened little girl. She hid for long periods, wouldn't interact with her foster family and initially wouldn't even play with her siblings. Slowly, with patience and reassurance, she began to trust. Her first tiny purr after a week and a half was a very special moment and now she comes over for attention, plays, explores and purrs away happily. She is still a sensitive little soul who needs time, patience and people who will respect her boundaries. She is easily frightened by loud noises and sudden movements and wouldn't be suited to a busy home, young children or dogs. But Beignet has found her confidence in Shortcake! Shortcake is her complete opposite in many ways. From a very young age, like when her eyes first opened Shortcake has had an look that says it all. This confident, clever, independent lady, very much the little queen, knows exactly what she wants! She loves affection, on her terms, enjoys a cuddle when she's sleepy and has a wonderful relationship with all her siblings. But its Beignet she seems to understand particularly well, and her confidence helps Beignet feel safe. We would love Beignet and Shortcake to find their forever home together! What makes these four so special isn't just their individual personalities it is the relationships they've built along the way and that brings us to their incredible foster family. They have taken the time to understand them, earn their trust, recognise their individual needs and, most importantly, give them the security to become confident little personalities. There is nothing quite like watching a frightened kitten slowly learn that people can be trusted and knowing that her foster family gave her the time she needed to discover that. Now it's time for this pair to find their forever family. Beignet & Shortcake, a sensitive little soul and her confident companion.
