  • Elsa – Photo 1 of 7

    Elsa

    Pug/Mixed Breed · 6 years · Female · Medium

    Co. Louth, Ireland

This gentle girl arrived to us from Louth Pound on the 1st of May, and it was immediately clear that life hadn’t been kind to her. She was found with Olaf — whom we believe to be her son — and only recently we learned of another dog, Nicki, who we now suspect is her daughter. Three dogs, all connected, all let down. Elsa was booked straight in for neutering, had her nails clipped, and underwent surgery to remove a lump for analysis. Her skin was in poor condition too. Thankfully, a wonderful foster stepped forward so she could recover in comfort. She is now back at kennels, and we are desperately hoping to find her a foster or, even better, a forever home. Elsa is such a lovely soul — gentle, sweet, and quietly hopeful. She deserves to know what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and truly loved. These small comforts are helping her confidence grow every day. Carla is a gentle soul, and this foster period is giving her exactly what she needs before she takes the next big step into her forever home. She enjoys leisurely walks. • Devon – Photo 1 of 6

    Devon

    Collie/Spaniel · 7 months · Male · Medium

    Co. Louth, Ireland

Devon - Border Collie Male Surrendered to Dublin Pound, then came into the care of DDR on the 4th June 2026 Date of Birth - 18th February 2026 Vaccinated, Microchipped 💙 Devon – Our Little Survivor In early June, we were asked to help three young Collie pups. One of them was Devon — a bright, gentle little soul who had already endured far too much in his short life. His first month with us was spent in kennels, but when kennel cough broke out in the Centre, we secured a foster home for him. Devon thrived there. He adored the garden, the comfort, the routine, and his foster mom. His little personality finally began to shine. But at the beginning of August, everything changed. Devon suddenly became lethargic, developed severe diarrhoea, and stopped playing — completely out of character for this lively pup. His foster mom rushed him to the out‑of‑hours vets, where he was found to have a dangerously high temperature and was clearly in pain. Emergency treatment kept him stable overnight until he could be transferred to our own vets the next morning. What followed was a terrifying ordeal. Devon was taken straight in for explorative surgery after a lump was detected on his abdomen. Further investigations revealed congenital kidney abnormalities — one kidney deformed and misplaced, the other functioning poorly. His white cell count was extremely high, and his kidney readings were deeply concerning. Images and a urine sample were sent to a Specialist in Dublin while our vets worked to stabilise him. Despite antibiotics and pain relief offering brief improvement, Devon relapsed and had to be rushed to Specialist Vets in Dublin. His temperature spiked and crashed repeatedly, his little body shivering one moment and burning up the next. His immune system was fighting with everything it had. After extensive testing, the specialists finally reached a diagnosis: Steroid Responsive Meningitis. The moment treatment began, Devon started to improve — a huge relief for everyone who has been fighting for him. Devon has now been discharged and has been spending the last few weeks recovering in his foster home. We are so grateful to his fosters for looking after him in his time of need. Devon continues to fight back after his recent health scare, showing us every day just how strong and determined he truly is. This brave little lad has faced more than his fair share of challenges, but his spirit never wavers. With the support of our team — and all the love he’s been surrounded with — Devon is slowly but surely getting back on his paws. Devon is now looking for his forever home. If you would like to adopt this brave little boy, please email rehoming@dundalkdogrescue.ie

  • Nicki – Photo 1 of 7
    In foster home

    Nicki

    Pug/Terrier · 1 year · Female · Small

    Co. Louth, Ireland

Nicki is a very affectionate and playful Pug x, walks well on the lead and travels well in the car. Nicki arrived into our care in an incredibly vulnerable state — underweight, frightened, and clearly having endured far more than any dog ever should. We believe she may be a sibling of Olaf, and sadly, her condition reflects a life that has not been kind. But that all changes now. Nicki is finally safe. Over the last few weeks we focused on rebuilding her body condition, trust, and confidence. She received all necessary veterinary care, including neutering and Cherry Eye surgery. She is a beautiful girl who deserves to be surrounded by patience, gentleness, and love. Despite everything she has been through, Nicki’s soft, gentle nature is already shining through. She wants to be brave. She wants to connect. And with time, she will blossom into the happy, secure little dog she was always meant to be. • Max – Photo 1 of 6

    Max

Glen of Imaal Terrier · 6 years · Male · Small

    Co. Louth, Ireland

Max came into the Louth County Pound when his owner moved home and could no longer take him along. He had lived his entire life outdoors, and suddenly found himself without the only world he knew. Now safe in our care, Max is taking everything in slowly. He’s a little overwhelmed — new faces, new dogs, new routines — but that’s only natural for a senior boy who hasn’t known much change. What he has known is loyalty, and we see that in his eyes already. Our volunteers are gently working their magic, offering reassurance, kindness, and consistency. Max is beginning to understand that he’s safe, and that better days are coming. Senior dogs like Max deserve soft beds, warm rooms, and people who won’t let them down again. Our adoption policy requires all dogs to live indoors as part of the family — and for older dogs, that comfort and security is especially important. If you would like to be considered for Max and help him enjoy the rest of his life with dignity, love, and stability, please get in touch!
