    Nick

    €275adoption fee

Collie (Border) Cross · 3 years · Male · Medium

    Co. Dublin, Ireland

Nick is a young Collie with a gentle with a sensitive soul. He has spent the majority of his life in kennels, and while the world can sometimes feel like a big and overwhelming place for him, those who have taken the time to truly get to know Nick will tell you there is no dog more loving, cuddly, playful or affectionate. Nick isn't the type of dog who will run straight up to a new person. He needs time to get to know you and feel safe, and all the new sights, sounds and smells of unfamiliar places can be a lot for this sensitive boy. But given the time and patience to take things at his own pace, Nick blossoms into an incredibly loving companion. His carers have built strong bonds with him by allowing him to set the pace, and the rewards have been amazing. Once Nick trusts you, he absolutely adores his people. In fact, his favourite place in the world is likely to be curled up beside you on the sofa, enjoying as many cuddles as he can get! Nick also has a wonderfully playful side. He adores toys of all kinds and particularly loves a good game of tug-of-war. He's a big fan of tasty treats and enjoys learning new tricks, making positive, reward-based training a lovely way for him and his new family to build their relationship. Nick enjoys spending time with other dogs and is good at adapting to different play styles. He could potentially live with another dog who will enjoy lots of play time and help Nick feel more secure as he adjusts to life in a home. For Nick, the key to a happy future is slow and steady. He is looking for someone who understands that building a relationship takes time and who will be patient while he learns that the world isn't such a scary place. A quiet home in a peaceful area, without lots of visitors or busy activity, would

    Perez

    €275adoption fee

    Lurcher Cross · 5 years · Male · Medium

    Co. Dublin, Ireland

Perez has been patiently waiting since 2023 for a place to finally call his own. This relaxed and friendly lurcher has a gentle nature and enjoys easy-going walks where he can take in his surroundings at his own pace. He's always happy to meet new people and, while he can occasionally get a little jumpy in his excitement to make a new friend, it's all part of his sweet and affectionate personality. Perez is a real cuddle bug at heart. After a stroll or some playtime in the garden, you'll find him happily curled up in the comfiest spot he can claim. Perez is also a big fan of his food, which makes him a great candidate for enrichment activities. He loves puzzle feeders and games that keep his mind busy. He enjoys hopping into the car and is more than happy to join his people on little adventures, making him a wonderful companion for those who like to explore new places together. Perez forms strong bonds with his people and can find it difficult when they leave, so he would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time to help him gradually build confidence with being alone. He's looking to be the star of the show, which means he'll need to be the only pet in the home. He will also be happiest exploring quieter walking areas where he won't feel overwhelmed by lots of other dogs. With the right home, Perez will be a loyal, loving companion who brings warmth, comfort, plenty of cuddles to every single day.

    Pair

    Maximus and Macy

    Dog

    Co. Down, Northern Ireland

The most special of duos These two have waited a very long time, March 2024 will mark 4 years in rescue for this pair so we would love to find them a home before then. Both came to Almost Home separately in March 2020, along with a large number of failed hunting dogs, Max & Macy are now the last of those dogs to be rehomed. Macy (now around 8) arrived with her two sisters Mia & Madison. Madison, the most confident of the sisters was rehomed but Mia & Macy needed more time to build their confidence & trust in humans. Max (now around 5) is a beautiful but very shy boy around humans, it’s taken him a long time but he’s learnt to trust our volunteers and now enjoys little interactions and strokes with us every day. Last July our hearts were broken to discover that Mia was terminally ill and passed away, leaving Macy on her own. In an effort to keep her spirits up and to stop her feeling lonely, our team decided to pair Macy with Maximus and the two have been inseparable ever since. We previously had advertised Maximus for rehoming on his own, however the team have decided it would be in Max & Macy’s best interest to try to find them a forever home together. We appreciate that adopting not only one, but two shy dogs is not an easy undertaking for anyone, but we really believe there is a perfect home out there with the time, patience and love to give them – and we know the best things in life are always worth waiting for! We’re looking for …. a quiet settled home with no children under 14 A very secure garden A family willing to fully commit to giving this pair all the patience, time and love they will need to settle in their new family There will be a huge line of volunteers crying the happiest of tears on the day these two leave us to start their new journeys with their new family. We will miss them terribly, but we know the right family is out there for our beautiful Max & Macy… Could it be with you?

  • Red – Photo 1 of 1

    Red

    £250adoption fee

    Dog · Male

    Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland

Sadly, Red has been with us for over three years now. Red has some fears around meeting new people and appreciates a slow introduction to build a good relationship with him – but once he’s comfortable around you he is full of kisses and cuddles. This means that potential adopters would need to be prepared to make lots of visits to the Sanctuary over quite a period of time in order to build up a positive relationship with Red. Red also struggles with traffic and busy areas so he is in need of an active new home in a quiet area. Here at our Sanctuary he is exercised in our enclosed paddocks and is often taken off-site to quieter areas for calm walks – he travels really well in the car/van. Red has also shown reactivity to other dogs, he will need to be the only dog in the home. Red would be best suited in an adult only home and he will need an experienced owner who is capable of working through these issues. He is also a part of our April’s Wish programme – which will include sessions with a dog behaviourist pre- and post-adoption to help him transition into his new home. Red has so much love to give, when he feels safe and secure he piles this onto you, whether you want it or not, we hope someone eventually sees what we do in Red.

    Petunia and Taffy

    Mixed · 5-6 years

    Co. Down, Northern Ireland

Petunia & Taffy (AKA Tuna & Tuffs) Breed: Mixed Age: 5-6 Size: Small/Medium Temperament: Playful, friendly, shy. Special Requirements: Must be rehomed together. Cats: No Other dogs: Yes Children: 12+ This pair are very special to all of us at Almost Home. They arrived in June 2022, rescued from Pakistan where they led an appalling life. This duo found their safe haven with a lovely girl called Chris. Sadly Chris passed away & 9 of her beloved dogs arrived at Almost Home. Tuna & Tuffs are the last remaining 2 still looking for a home! They’re both very clever & despite their life of heartbreak and hurdles they always greet you with a smile. They absolutely love playing together & enjoy dancing around with the volunteers! Both are super cuddly & enjoy nothing more than getting belly rubs in the field. Because these 2 have come from a tough background, they require understanding & patience to settle into a home environment. They’re both unsure of new situations but their confidence is building and in the right home they will thrive. They will give unlimited happiness in return for your dedication & love.

  • Tilly – Photo 1 of 3

    Tilly

    Dog · 8 years · Female

    Co. Down, Northern Ireland

Meet Tilly It’s time for another updated profile for one of our longest residents. Tilly has now been in our care for almost three years, and if we’re honest, we simply can’t understand why she’s still waiting. She’s a beautiful, big-hearted hound who has so much love to give. Like many hounds, she’s wonderfully independent and can be as stubborn as a mule when she decides she has other ideas—but that’s all part of her charm, and it never fails to make us smile. Tilly absolutely lives for her walks. Give her open fields, plenty of new scents to investigate, and time to explore at her own pace, and she’s in her element. Watching her nose lead the way is one of life’s simple pleasures. She’s social with other dogs and enjoys their company, but over the years she’s grown into a confident, settled girl who would also be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love and attention for herself. If there’s one thing that melts Tilly’s heart, it’s children. She absolutely adores them. We feel she could happily share her home with children aged 8 years and over. We do believe that something in her past has made her especially protective of the people she loves, particularly children, and that loyalty is simply part of who she is. Tilly is strong, affectionate, funny, and full of character. She’ll make you laugh with her stubborn streak, keep you active on adventures, and reward you with unwavering love and loyalty. After almost three years, we genuinely don’t know why this wonderful girl is still overlooked. She has waited long enough. Could you be the family that finally shows Tilly what it’s like to have a place to call home forever?
